One in a Million Award recipient: Malika Yates
Where she’s multiplying good: Bear, Delaware
How she’s multiplying good: She is One in a Million. Malika Yates is Elite Miss Delaware Earth. She is working hard on recovering from a traumatic brain injury and cognitive concussion. As a result she hasn't been able to work. However, she spent her entire savings last year on teaching students and communities in inner city, impoverished and suburban areas how to live an eco-friendly, healthy and sustainable lifestyle filled with kindness. Last year she sold her belongings to take an inner city school on a eco-education field trip and introduced them to vegan and vegetarian food options. For years she has organized community cleanups, participated in roadway cleanups, water cleanups and park cleanups. As well as volunteers at numerous nonprofit originations, plants trees, prunes neighbors bushes, cleaned up low income neighborhoods, feeds those in need and provide basic essentials, speaks about pollution and our environment at conferences and presentations. She was able to get the New Castle County Coalition passed. Malika's dedication to being of service to students and our community is inspiring. She is a pillar in our community and is the kindest person I know. Malika is currently starting a nonprofit to continue her work globally.
