Where he’s multiplying good: Wilmington, DE

How he’s multiplying good: He is One in a Million. First State Squash (FSS) provides Wilmington youth attending Title I schools in 5th-12th grade, with tuition-free academic and athletic programming thus empowering them to make informed decisions on their higher education opportunities.

First State Squash’s school-year and summer program currently offers longitudinal academic programming, squash instruction and cultural and community service opportunities to 25 students in fifth, sixth, seventh and tenth grade. Team members are recruited in fifth grade with the intention of them remaining members of First State Squash through High School, college graduation and as they enter the workforce.

Students attend programming three days a week and are picked up from local public and charter schools by First State Squash staff and brought to the Central YMCA. Each programming day, team members receive:

• One hour of squash training

• One hour of individualized academic support, and literacy-based enrichment

• A healthy snack
